The Art Direction
When CDL approached our 100 Thieves team/CDL partner teams with the brief, the only question
I asked to myself was "What do Call of duty players want in their game". Followed by
"How can we give our team an advantage when they play other teams in the future".
Our question was answered with simplistic execution, the black out skin.
LA Gun Skin
I designed the LA Thieves skin to highlight the brands "thieve" pattern and brand color accents
tastefully. While other teams weren't allowed to use gold in their skins..
CDL allowed us after a discussion to enable the gold palette since we had won the previous Call of Duty major.
Resolve
The skin became such an instant success it led Call of Duty to later "nerf" the skin
or in other words, redesign it to not allow a competitive advantage in their Warzone gamemode.
Call of Duty created more team color contrast to fight the problem, but ultimately put
100 Thieves (LA Thieves) high on the unit sold list.
